Jens Blauert, a German scientist known for his work in psychoacoustics, died on March 13, 2026.
He was an emeritus professor at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, where he founded the Institute of Communication Acoustics. Blauert’s major fields of interest included spatial hearing, binaural technology, aural architecture, perceptual quality, speech technology, virtual environments and tele-presence.
Born in Hamburg on June 20, 1938, he studied communication engineering in Aachen and received a doctorate in engineering in 1969. During his career, he authored or co-authored more than 150 papers and published books including “Spatial Hearing – the Psychophysics of Human Sound Localization.”
