Born in Addis Ababa in 1940, she studied law at Sapienza University of Rome, where she later specialized in international law. Lattanzi taught at Luiss University and Roma Tre University, and she also served as an ad litem judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda from 2003 to 2006 and at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia from 2007 to 2016.
