Born on August 26, 1934, in Steinfurt, he built the company into a maker of slot machines and operator of gambling arcades. Gauselmann received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1993 and the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2003.
He was also named an honorary citizen of Espelkamp and Lübbecke.
