Doug Allan, the Scottish wildlife photographer and cameraman, died on April 8, 2026, aged 74–75.

Known for his work in polar regions and underwater, he was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, one of twin brothers, and was the son of a photographer and photojournalist who ran a photography shop in the town. He studied marine biology at the University of Stirling after becoming a keen snorkeller and underwater diver as a child.

Allan later worked as a pearl diver with Bill Abernathy, described as the last pearl hunter in Scotland, before becoming a full-time cinematographer in 1985. He went on to serve as a principal cameraman on BBC wildlife programmes including Life in the Freezer, Wildlife Special: Polar Bear, The Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet.
