Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran, an Indian–American medical examiner who served as Los Angeles County chief medical examiner-coroner from 1992 to 2013 and again from 2016 to 2017, died on April 8, 2026.
He was 77. Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in 1949, Sathyavagiswaran graduated from Loyola College, Chennai, and Stanley Medical College.
He immigrated to the United States in 1972, trained in pathology and medicine in Brooklyn and at Columbia University, and joined the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office in 1977. He later rose to chief of forensic medicine before leading the county office.
