
Colette Khoury, a Syrian novelist and poet, died on April 10, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born in 1931 in Bab Tuma, Damascus, she was also a writer, academic and politician. Khoury graduated from Damascus University with a bachelor’s degree in French literature and received a diploma from the school of literature in Beirut.
Her career began in 1957 and spanned more than six decades. She published her first collection of poems in French, “Vingt Ans,” in 1958 and later wrote collections of stories about the 1973 October War, including “Luminous Days” in 1984.
