Michele Zappella, the Italian psychiatrist and scholar of child neuropsychiatry, died on August 25, 2026, aged 90.

Born in Viareggio on March 4, 1936, he graduated in medicine and surgery in Rome in 1960 before beginning his career abroad in London at the Fountain Hospital from 1961 to 1963. He later returned to Italy, specialized in pediatrics, and after a Fulbright grant in the United States went on to work in child neurology.

Zappella headed the Department of Child Neuropsychiatry at Siena Hospital from 1973 to 2006 and also taught child neuropsychiatry at the University of Siena.
