Liu I-chou, the Taiwanese civil servant who served as chairman of the Central Election Commission, died on August 23, 2026, aged 78.

A lawyer and political scientist, he was vice chairperson of the CEC from 2009 to 2014, then became acting chairperson after Chang Po-ya resigned, and was formally appointed chairperson in January 2015. Liu earned law degrees from National Chengchi University and later completed doctoral studies in political science at the University of Michigan, receiving his Ph.D.

in 1990. He remained in the post until November 2017.
