
Yoshiharu Tsuge, the Japanese manga artist and essayist known for “Nejishiki,” died on March 3, 2026, in Tokyo, Japan, of aspiration pneumonia.
Born in Katsushika, Tokyo, on October 30, 1937, Tsuge was active in comics from 1955 to 1987. His work ranged from tales of ordinary life to dreamlike surrealism, and often reflected an interest in travel around Japan.
He drew particular attention for the surrealist stories he published in the late 1960s in the avant-garde magazine Garo.
