
Stephen Boyden, a British–Australian scientist and writer, died on December 26, 2025.
He was a professor emeritus at the Australian National University and was widely recognised for pioneering work in immunology and human ecology. Born in Croydon, England, on February 8, 1925, he attended the Royal Veterinary College in London before working at the University of Cambridge and the Rockefeller Institute in New York.
He received a PhD in immunology from the University of Cambridge in 1951 and early in his career introduced the tanned red cell method of titrating antibodies.
