Also known as Wilem William Frischmann, he was born on January 27, 1931, in Uzhhorod, then in Czechoslovakia and now in Ukraine. He went on to become chairman of Pell Frischmann, the consulting engineers’ firm with which he was closely associated, and was widely regarded as one of the leading engineers of his generation.
He was awarded a CBE for his contribution to the profession.
