Peter Snape, the British politician who served as Labour MP for West Bromwich East from 1974 to 2001 and later sat in the House of Lords as Baron Snape, died on August 14, 2026, aged 84.
Born Peter Charles Snape in Stockport on 12 February 1942, he built his political career in the Labour Party and was elected to Parliament in February 1974, remaining in the seat until he stood down at the 2001 election. Outside Westminster, he was chairman and a major shareholder of his hometown football club, Stockport County.
He was created a life peer in 2004 and later became vice-chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Speedway Racing in 2015.
