Ivan Hall, the British architectural historian, died on March 2, 2026, aged 93.
Hall specialised in the architecture of John Carr and had lifelong interests in neoclassical architecture, the conservation of historic buildings, particularly in Beverley and Hull, and the furniture of Thomas Chippendale. Born in Manchester on February 13, 1933, he studied at Manchester University and later worked in adult education at Hull University until 1984.
He then moved to London to work for English Heritage, with advisory work focused on the City of London. Hall was also involved in teaching architectural students on conservation architecture at the Royal Institute of British Architects.
