Gerry Meehan dead at age 79, Canadian ice hockey left winger and executive

Gerry Meehan, a Canadian ice hockey left winger and executive, died on June 5, 2026, at age 79.

Born Gerard Marcus Meehan on September 3, 1946, in Toronto, he was raised in Newmarket and played minor hockey at St. Michael’s College School before moving on to junior hockey with the Toronto Marlboros.

He was part of the Marlboros team that won the Memorial Cup in 1966-67 and was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1963 NHL amateur draft. Meehan went on to play in the National Hockey League for the Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Atlanta Flames and Washington Capitals, and later served the Sabres as a general manager and senior vice president.
