Born George Oliver Wells in Oakland, Calif., on October 31, 1947, he attended Oakland Technical High School, Laney College and New Mexico State University before turning to football and wrestling. In the Canadian Football League, he played for the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Saskatchewan Roughriders.
As a wrestler, known at times as George Welles and Master G, he worked in regional promotions in the 1970s and 1980s, including the Continental Wrestling Association, Pacific Northwest Wrestling, Stampede Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation. He was also remembered for facing Jake “The Snake” Roberts at WrestleMania 2.
