Peter Ransley, the British screenwriter, playwright and novelist known for work on Tales of the Unexpected, died on January 29, 2026, of bronchopneumonia.
Born in Yorkshire on December 10, 1931, he grew up in Pudsey and attended Pudsey Grammar School. After national service with the RAF in Singapore in 1949, he worked as a trade journalist and was founding editor of Plastics and Rubber Weekly in 1964.
Ransley began his writing career on stage before moving into radio and television, later writing for Tales of the Unexpected and the BBC’s Play for Today. He also founded the charity Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA).
