
Paul Knapman, the British coroner, died on April 5, 2026, aged 81.
Dr. Knapman served as Her Majesty’s coroner for Westminster and Inner West London from 1980 to 2011, having been deputy coroner from 1975 to 1980.
In that role, he investigated sudden deaths as an independent judicial officer and presided over numerous notable cases. He was made a deputy lieutenant of Greater London in 2008 and became representative deputy lieutenant for Westminster in 2013. Knapman attended Epsom College, King’s College London and St George’s Hospital Medical School, where he qualified as a doctor in 1968. He was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1972.
