Barták built his reputation at ČTK, where he worked in the foreign desk from 1978 to 2006 as an editor and overseas reporter. In the 1980s and early 1990s he served as a permanent correspondent in Paris and Moscow, and from 1995 to 2006 he reported from Brussels, helping Czech readers follow the negotiations over the country’s entry into NATO and the European Union.
