Born Lesley Heycock, she built her career in journalism before turning to full-time writing, holding a range of magazine and newspaper posts and later working as a feature writer for The Guardian until 1980. A native of London, she was educated in that city and in Wales.
Grant-Adamson went on to write crime fiction as well as television scripts, poetry, magazine pieces and short stories, and her books included Writing Crime Fiction, Lipstick and Lies and The Girl in the Case.
