Michel Hulin, a French philosopher who specialized in Indian philosophy, died on March 16, 2026.
Born on Jan. 31, 1936, he was an alumnus of the École normale supérieure and received his doctorate in philosophy from Paris-Sorbonne University in 1977 with a dissertation on the Vedic concept of ahamkara.
He taught as professor of Indian and comparative philosophy at Paris-Sorbonne from 1981 to 1998. His research focused on classical Indian philosophy, including the nondualism in Vedanta, Tantric-inspired texts in Shaivism, and the confrontations between European and Asian traditions of thought.
