Lars Lallerstedt Swedish industrial designer dead at age 87

Lars Lallerstedt, a Swedish industrial designer and pioneer in the field in Sweden, died on February 28, 2026.

Born on June 5, 1938, he worked across a range of design areas, including barn-construction concepts for Alfa Laval from 1984, medical appliances, consumer products, hi-fi systems, telephones, radio and telecommunication equipment, and open stoves. He was engaged by Sonab from 1969 to 1974, where he designed minimalistic loudspeakers and amplifiers.

Lallerstedt also helped found industrial design education at Konstfack in Stockholm, lectured there from 1976, served as Sweden’s first professor of industrial design from 1986 to 1992, and headed the school from 1999 to 2003.

Lars Lallerstedt (5 June 1938 – 28 February 2026) was a Swedish designer and industrial designer, who was considered a pioneer in the discipline within Sweden. Grandson of professor Erik Lallerstedt, son of architect Lars-Erik Lallerstedt and brother of Erik Lallerstedt, Swedish chef and restaurateur.
