Hans Jorritsma, a Dutch Olympic field hockey player, died on June 4, 2026, at the age of 77.
Born in Lochem on March 19, 1949, he represented the Netherlands at the 1976 Olympic Games and at the 1978 World Cup. The Dutch team finished fourth at the Olympics and second at the World Cup, where Jorritsma declined to receive his silver medal from the hands of Jorge Rafael Videla for political reasons.
He played 65 international matches between 1975 and 1978, scoring once, and later served as the national field hockey coach in two separate periods, from 1987 to 1990 and from 1991 to 1993. Afterward, he went on to lead the national teams of South Africa and Pakistan, and in 1996 was appointed manager of the Dutch association football team.
