Jimmy Batten, the English boxer who became British light middleweight champion for more than two and a half years, died on September 2, 2026, aged 70.

Born in Millwall, London, on 7 November 1955, he began boxing at the age of 70 and took the sport more seriously from 10, going on to compile a strong junior amateur record that included three national schoolboy titles, two junior ABA titles and an NABC championship. He turned professional in 1974 under Terry Lawless at the Royal Oak gym in Canning Town, won 16 of his first 18 fights, and captured the British light middleweight title in February 1977 when Albert Hillman retired in the seventh round at the Royal Albert Hall.
