Jacques Wallage, the Dutch politician who served as a Labour Party (PvdA) member of the House of Representatives and later as mayor of Groningen, died on August 13, 2026, aged 79.

Born in Apeldoorn on September 27, 1946, he studied at the University of Groningen, where he focused on political sociology and urban planning and later worked as a university teacher and sociologist. Wallage was elected to the House of Representatives in 1981 and returned to the chamber in 1994 after serving as state secretary for education and sciences.
