
Doug Moe, an American basketball coach who led the Denver Nuggets, died on February 17, 2026, at age 87.
Born Douglas Edwin Moe on September 21, 1938, in New York City, he was a star small forward at North Carolina, where he was a two-time All-American. After being accused of point shaving and later cleared of fixing games, he was kicked out of school and blackballed from the NBA.
Moe played professionally in Italy and later in the ABA with the New Orleans Buccaneers and other teams, earning three All-Star selections and winning the 1969 ABA championship with the Oakland Oaks. Injuries ended his playing career at 33, and he went on to coach in the ABA and NBA, including the Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs.

Moe played five seasons for four teams while being named an ABA All-Star three times and winning the ABA championship in 1969 with the Oakland Oaks.
