Ngari Rinpoche, the Tibetan tulku and politician known as Tenzin Choegyal, died on February 17, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born in Lhasa in March 1946, he was the younger brother of the 14th Dalai Lama. He was recognized as the 16th Ngari Rinpoche and entered Drepung Monastery at age seven.
He later lived in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, India, where he died.
