Shinya Yamada, the Japanese musician best known as the drummer of Luna Sea, died on February 17, 2026, at age 56 of cancer.
Born in Hadano, Kanagawa, on January 13, 1970, he was also a media personality and businessman. He played with Luna Sea from 1989 until the band’s disbandment in 2000, and again after its 2010 reunion until his death.
His career also included solo work and performances with other acts, including Maki Ohguro and Friends, Creature Creature, Toshi with T-Earth, and Yellow Fried Chickenz.
