Dmitry Bavilsky, a Russian writer, literary critic and journalist, died on February 17, 2026.
Born in Chelyabinsk on January 19, 1969, he graduated from Chelyabinsk State University in 1993 and completed post-graduate studies in foreign literature there in 1996. Bavilsky worked as deputy editor-in-chief of Uralskaya Nov from 1995 to 1999, later served as a supervisor at the Chelyabinsk Academic Theatre of Drama, and headed Vzglyad publications.
His writing appeared in Literaturnaya Gazeta, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Znamya, Oktyabr and Ural. Among his novels were The Library of Babel, The Nightshade Family, The Potato Eaters, Gagarin’s Last Love and The Red Dot.
