Born in Verona in 1929, he became known as a presbyter, educator and writer, and devoted much of his work to helping people recover from drug addiction. Mazzi studied theology, earned a degree in philosophy from the University of Ferrara, and was ordained in 1956 in the congregation of the Poveri Servi della Divina Provvidenza.
