Born in Florence in 1942, he held the chair of history of science at the University of Siena from 1979 to 1994, followed by the same chair at the University of Florence from 1994 to 2010. He became director of the Museo Galileo – Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza in Florence in 1982 and held the post thereafter.

From 1991 to 2007, he was editor-in-chief of Nuncius, an international journal devoted to the history of science. Galluzzi wrote many works on subjects in his research. His books included Tra atomi e indivisibili. La materia ambigua di Galileo, published by Olschki in Florence in 2011, and «Libertà di filosofare in naturalibus». I mondi paralleli di Cesi e Galileo, published by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in Rome in 2014. The first title addresses Galileo and the ambiguity of matter, including atoms and indivisibles; the second concerns the parallel worlds of Cesi and Galileo. Together, the books reflect the range of his writing on Galileo and the history of science, alongside his work in university teaching, journal editing and museum leadership.
