Born Ivan Ivanovich Edeshko on March 25, 1945, in Stsiatski in the Byelorussian SSR, he was a Soviet-era player who trained at the Armed Forces sports society in Moscow and spent much of his club career with CSKA Moscow. Edeshko also won gold with the Soviet national team at the 1972 Summer Olympics, helping set up Alexander Belov’s game-winning basket in the final seconds of the title game against the United States.
