Jerry Koosman, an American professional baseball pitcher, died November 1, 2026, aged 83.

Born Jerome Martin Koosman in Appleton, he played in Major League Baseball from 1967 to 1985 for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. Koosman was a member of the Mets’ 1969 World Series-winning team, known as the Miracle Mets, a distinction for which he is best known.

He posted a 20–13 record in 1979 and followed it with a 16–13 season in 1980. In August 1981, after the players’ strike ended, the Twins traded him to the White Sox. He finished that season 4–13, tied for the league lead in losses, then recorded identical 11–7 records in 1982 and 1983. The White Sox won the American League West in 1983, their first postseason appearance since the 1959 World Series, but lost to the Baltimore Orioles in four games. Traded to Philadelphia after that season, Koosman went 14–15 in 1984, his last productive season. His major-league career spanned four teams and nearly two decades, with his place in the Mets’ championship season among its defining chapters.
