Crants, an American businessman and co-founder of the Corrections Corporation of America, died on February 22, 2026. He was 81.
Born Doctor Robert Crants in Salamanca, New York, on November 17, 1944, he did not generally use the name Doctor as an adult. He grew up on a Seneca reservation in New York, was educated at Lansing Central High School, and graduated from the United States Military Academy. He later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1974. Crants served in Vietnam and Southeast Asia and was chairman and chief executive officer of Corrections Corporation of America from 1994 to 1999.
