Maureen Hemphill, a Canadian politician and Manitoba MLA from 1981 to 1990, died on February 22, 2026, at age 89.
Born Maureen Lucille Miller in Grand Forks, British Columbia, on January 26, 1937, she served in the cabinet of NDP Premier Howard Pawley and was an unsuccessful candidate for the party’s leadership in 1988. Hemphill also served on the Assiniboine South School Board in 1969, 1970 and 1973.
She first ran for the provincial legislature in 1977 in the Winnipeg riding of Charleswood.
