Yaroslav Cherstvy, a Russian rower who represented the Soviet Union, died on February 22, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born on 7 May 1933, he competed at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne in the men’s coxed four, where his crew was eliminated in the semi-final. Earlier that year, he won a silver medal in the coxed four at the European Rowing Championships in Bled.

He later won the Grand Challenge Cup in 1958 with Trud Leningrad at the Henley Royal Regatta and took silver in the men’s eight at the 1962 World Rowing Championships in Lucerne.

Yaroslav Filippovich Cherstvy (Russian: Ярослав Филиппович Черствый; 7 May 1933 – 22 February 2026) was a Russian rower who represented the Soviet Union.
