
David Klahr, an American psychologist, died on April 26, 2026, at age 86.
He was known for his research in cognitive development, psychology of science, and educational psychology, including work on computational models of cognitive development and dual space search theory of scientific reasoning. Klahr was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University from 1969 and held the Walter van Dyke Bingham Professorship of Cognitive Development and Education Sciences.
He was also a member of the National Academy of Education. He earned his undergraduate degree from MIT in electrical engineering and received his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon’s Graduate School of Industrial Administration in 1968.
