Born Norvell Kay Granger in Greenville, Texas, she worked as a teacher and business executive before entering elected office. She served on the Fort Worth zoning commission and city council, became the city’s first female mayor in 1991, and was the first Republican woman elected to represent Texas in the U.S. House. Granger was also a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University and was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame.
