Luis Isaac Puerto Rican baseball player and coach dead at age 79

Luis Isaac, a Puerto Rican baseball player and coach for the Cleveland Indians, died on April 26, 2026, at age 79.

A catcher in the minor leagues from 1962 through 1979, he batted and threw right-handed and was known for his large, well-groomed mustache. Isaac joined the Cleveland Indians in 1965 and spent the next 44 years with the organization as a player, coach, scout, or minor league manager.

He managed the Single-A Batavia Trojans in 1972, returned to playing for one more season in 1973 with the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts, and later spent two separate stints on the Indians‘ major league coaching staff, including time as bullpen coach in 1987 and again from 1993 until 2008.
