Bob Lacey dead at age 72, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians)

Bob Lacey, an American baseball pitcher who played for the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Indians, died on June 4, 2026.

He was 72. Born Robert Joseph Lacey, Jr., on Aug.

25, 1953, in Fredericksburg, he was selected by the Oakland A’s in the 10th round of the 1972 draft after a standout youth career that included striking out 19 batters in an American Legion playoff game. Lacey reached the majors in 1977 and went on to appear in parts of seven seasons for Oakland, Cleveland, Texas, California and San Francisco. In one of his more notable early outings, he struck out Reggie Jackson twice in a key situation, and he later led the American League in appearances in 1978 while working out of the bullpen for Oakland.
