Ong, the American manufacturing industry executive and diplomat who led Goodrich Corporation and later served as ambassador to Norway, died on June 4, 2026, at age 92. Born John Doyle Ong on September 29, 1933, in Ohio, he built his career at the B.
F. Goodrich Company and served as chairman and chief executive officer of Goodrich from 1979 to 1986. He was later appointed United States ambassador to Norway, serving from 2002 to 2005. Ong earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ohio State University and studied law at Harvard University. He also received honorary doctorates from Ohio State, Kent State, the University of Akron and South Dakota State University.
