
Rob Grant, the British comedy writer and television producer who co-created the Red Dwarf comedy franchise, died on February 25, 2026, aged 70.
Born Robert Grant in Salford on September 25, 1955, he studied psychology at Liverpool University for two years. In the mid-1980s, he collaborated with Doug Naylor on radio programmes including Son Of Cliché and Wrinkles for BBC Radio 4, and on television projects such as Spitting Image, The 10 Percenters and work for Jasper Carrott.
After Red Dwarf, Grant wrote the television series The Strangerers and Dark Ages, and four solo novels, his last being Fat. He also worked in a later writing partnership with Andrew Marshall.
