Known by the nom de guerre Kishan, or Kishan da, he was also identified by the aliases Nirbhay Mukherjee, Kajal and Mahesh. Bose was the party’s No.
2 figure, in charge of Bihar and Jharkhand and head of its Eastern Regional Bureau. A Bengali Maoist leader and party intellectual, he joined the Naxalite movement as a trade union activist in 1967 and remained active in left-wing politics in India.
