Sefou Fagbohoun, a Beninese businessman and former member of Benin’s National Assembly, died on August 22, 2026, aged 80.
He was also president of the African Movement for Development and Progress, the political party he founded in 1997. From the commune of Adja-Ouèrè, he was an influential businessman under the government of General Mathieu Kérékou and served as a deputy in Benin’s 1st, 5th and 6th legislatures.
In 2006, he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Brigade over mismanagement at Société Nationale de Commercialisation des Produits Pétroliers and was released in 2008 after two years under arrest.
