Ned Jarrett, the American racing driver who won two NASCAR Cup Series championships, died on June 4, 2026, at age 93.
Born on October 12, 1932, in Conover, North Carolina, he built his reputation in stock car racing before becoming a broadcaster, and his calm manner earned him the nickname “Gentleman Ned Jarrett.” He won the Cup Series title in 1961 and again in 1965, and was later recognized by the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. Jarrett was the father of former drivers Glenn Jarrett and Dale Jarrett.
He died in Newton, North Carolina.
