Edythe Harrison, an American politician who served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1980 to 1983, died on September 1, 2026, aged 91.

Born Edythe Colton in Detroit, she later became the first woman nominated for statewide office by the Virginia Democratic Party. She lost renomination to Tom Moss in 1982 after district lines were redrawn, and in 1984 ran for the U.S.

Senate, where she was defeated by Republican incumbent John Warner. Harrison also helped found the Virginia Opera Association in 1974 and led a fundraising effort to restore the Norfolk Municipal Auditorium for the company’s new home, the Harrison Opera House.
