Born in Delhi on October 30, 1949, she began stage acting at the age of three and later took part in school and college plays and amateur theatre in Patiala. After completing postgraduate studies in Punjabi literature, she joined the Drama Department of Punjabi University, Patiala, as a lecturer.
Over a 37-year career as lecturer, reader, professor and head of department, she wrote and directed stage plays and trained many stage, television and film artists.
