Luis Puenzo, the Argentine film director, producer and screenplay writer, died on April 21, 2026, at age 80.
Born in Buenos Aires on Feb. 19, 1946, he worked mainly in the cinema of Argentina and also worked in the United States.
He began his career in 1965 producing television advertising spots in Argentina. He later founded Luis Puenzo Cinema with Sergio Tamburri; the company was renamed Cinemanía S.A. in 1974. During Argentina’s civic-military dictatorship in the mid-1970s and early 1980s, he chose to work in advertising.
