Virginio Domingo Bressanelli, an Argentine Roman Catholic prelate who served as bishop of Comodoro Rivadavia and bishop of Neuquén, died October 23, 2026, aged 84.

Born May 1, 1942, in Berabevú in Argentina’s Caseros Department, he entered the Dehonian religious community and made his profession on September 29, 1964. He was ordained a priest on December 17, 1966, beginning a ministry that included religious leadership as well as service in diocesan office.

From 1991 to 2003, Bressanelli served as superior general of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, the congregation also known as the Dehonians. That period of leadership preceded his diocesan service and two appointments as a bishop in Argentina. He was bishop of Comodoro Rivadavia from 2005 until 2010, then became bishop of Neuquén, serving there from 2010 to 2017. His service in Neuquén concluded in 2017, and he was identified as the diocese’s emeritus bishop. His path from religious profession and priestly ordination to leadership of his congregation and two episcopal assignments encompasses the principal roles recorded in his biography.
