Garland Green, an American soul singer and pianist, died on February 9, 2026.
Born Garfield Green Jr. on June 14, 1942, in Dunleith, Mississippi, he was the tenth of 11 children.
He lived in Mississippi until 1958, then moved to Chicago. While working and attending Englewood High, he sang on weekends, and was later heard performing in a pool room by Argia B. Collins, who helped finance his attendance at the Chicago Conservatory. In 1967, Green won a local talent show at the Trocadero, earning an opening spot for Lou Rawls and Earl Hines at the Sutherland Lounge.
