Born in Seville in 1937, he was widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in new flamenco and worked across music production, arrangement and composition. He helped bring to prominence landmark recordings including La leyenda del tiempo, the first three LPs by Lole y Manuel, and the debut album by Kiko Veneno.
